In short: At Rentio you can rent a car without a deposit (€0 deposit) if you choose SMART Insurance (Asigurare SMART): you pay a supplement of €10, €15 or €20/day, depending on the car, instead of having €200–400 blocked on your card. Rates include VAT.
Can you rent a car without a deposit in Satu Mare?
Yes. When you book, you choose between two options: the STANDARD deposit, with a deposit of €200–400 depending on the car, or SMART Insurance, with a €0 deposit and a daily supplement.
What SMART Insurance is: a daily fee that reduces the deposit to €0. It is not a third-party liability (RCA) or comprehensive (CASCO) insurance policy, but a Rentio contractual option. Certain costs remain your responsibility, as set out in the Terms and conditions, chapter 5 (you will find them below). In the Terms and conditions, the option appears as SCDW+ (Super Cover Plus). All cars have third-party liability insurance (RCA), as required by law.

How much does SMART Insurance cost for each car?
The supplement is €10, €15 or €20/day, depending on the car. Below you will find the STANDARD deposit and the SMART Insurance supplement for all 21 models (or similar). Rates include VAT.

The rental rate is separate and shown on each car's page. For example, the Opel Astra starts from €28/day for rentals of 7 days or more; with SMART Insurance you add €10/day and the €200 deposit is no longer required. You see the total price when you book, before you confirm.
What do you get with SMART Insurance?
The main thing: the deposit drops to €0, so you no longer have hundreds of euros blocked on your card while you have the car.
According to the Terms and conditions (chapter 4), the option reduces your liability in case of damage or theft, under the conditions described there. For example, damage must be recorded by the Police. And if you have any damage, you report it to Rentio immediately and follow the procedure in chapter 7 (an amicable accident report or Police documents, as the case may be). What does SMART Insurance NOT cover?
Whichever option you choose, some costs remain your responsibility. The Terms and conditions (chapter 5) list them as follows:
- failure to meet your obligations under chapter 2 (for example, driving on unpaved roads or roads closed to traffic, or letting someone who is not named in the contract drive);
- missing fuel: a refuelling fee of €50, plus the fuel;
- loss of or damage to the car's documents, keys or accessories: €100, plus their value;
- excessive soiling of the interior, stained or damaged seats: €100, plus the cleaning cost;
- damage to the underside of the car (underbody protection, exhaust, oil sump etc.);
- filling up with the wrong fuel: €200, plus transporting the car to the garage;
- damage to wheel rims or tyres;
- damage caused by smoking (smoking in the car is not allowed).
In addition, fuel, fines, parking and road tolls (except the Romanian road vignette, which is included) are also yours to pay. Full details are in the Terms and conditions.
Which documents and which card do you need?
The Terms and conditions (art. 2.1) require you to present, in original, your driving licence, an ID document and a credit card when signing the contract.
- Your licence must be valid. An International Driving Permit is mandatory if your licence is issued in a script other than the Latin alphabet or was obtained in a country that drives on the left (for example, the United Kingdom).
- The Terms state that "using a credit card is mandatory for blocking the deposit". Prepaid cards and Diners Club cards are not accepted.
- Fintech cards (Revolut, N26 etc.) can be used to pay for services, but not to block the deposit.
- You pay for the rental in full when signing the contract, by credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) or in cash.

When is the STANDARD deposit worth it?
If you have a credit card with a sufficient limit and only want to pay the rental rate, the STANDARD option costs you less per day. The deposit is released within 30 days of returning the car. If you don't want money blocked on your card, choose SMART Insurance.

Is SMART Insurance a comprehensive (CASCO) insurance?
No. It is a Rentio contractual option, a daily fee that reduces the deposit to €0. It is not a third-party liability (RCA) or comprehensive (CASCO) insurance policy, and the exclusions in chapter 5 of the Terms and conditions remain your responsibility.
How much extra do I pay per day to avoid leaving a deposit?
€10, €15 or €20/day, depending on the car. For example, €10/day for the Dacia Logan or Opel Astra and €20/day for the VW Touareg. Rates include VAT.
How much is the deposit if I don't choose SMART Insurance?

Does SMART Insurance also reduce the deposit for travelling abroad?
The Terms and conditions state that the deposit for taking the car abroad, of €200–1,000, can be reduced through SCDW+ (Asigurare SMART). Travel abroad is only allowed with Rentio's written consent and only within the EU/EEA.
